The Good News Hospital Project in the town of Mandritsara in northern Madagascar is run by the Association of Bible Baptist Churches of Madagascar with whom the Friends of Mandritsara Trust UK (FoMT) partner. The project comprises the Good News Hospital, the Good News School, a radio station and a nursing school. The aim of the project is to demonstrate the love of Jesus by giving every hospital patient, radio listener and school child excellent care and education, along with the good news of Jesus Christ.
The hospital has busy general outpatient and inpatient departments with a medical and surgical ward. 12,447 outpatient consultations were undertaken in 2018 and 1,295 medical inpatients were cared for over the same period.
The majority of the staff is Malagasy, some from the local area and others from different parts of Madagascar. They are supported by a team of missionaries from overseas and occasional visitors.
Doctors of all specialties, whom God may be calling, to volunteer at the Good News Hospital would be considered for any period of service. Physicians and General Practitioners able to help care for the large patient workload are particularly welcome.
New doctors will have a period of orientation. The hospital uses protocols and carries out Continuing Medical Education meetings regularly which all clinical staff participate in.
You will need to be able to speak, read and write some French, as it is the working language of the hospital. This is not a paid role; you will need to raise your own funds for flights and your expenses during your time in Mandritsara. Short-term volunteers are generally self-fund and longer-term volunteers are sent by a church or missionary organisation. Good quality housing is available locally. There is a teacher who supports the education of missionary children. All workers should have the prayerful support of their home church.
