Rasoa is a petite woman, less than 50 kilograms. She has hardly put on any weight during her pregnancy; no one would suspect that she is in her ninth month. She has never seen a midwife or nurse during the whole pregnancy. But after hours of carrying her in the sun at 40 degrees, even a light 50 kilograms feels like a hundredweight. Towards evening, the porters are exhausted and rest in a village. They have only covered a small part of the distance. Rasoa has meanwhile lost consciousness completely.
It is already getting dark when the group suddenly hears engine noises. An old man is coming up the road on a motorbike - it is too narrow for a car, but a good biker makes it on the bike. Marie asks the driver for help. When he sees Rasoa, he doubts the success of the mission. After some discussion, he agrees to take Rasoa and her mother with him on his way to the next village but one. Rasoa is fastened with cloths and ropes and the three of them leave the village in the semi-darkness.
